The professional singer and comedian has set up shop on Tiverton’s Gold Street, combining her love of laughter with a delicious menu. By opening Tasty’s, Claire Moullaris brought a taste of her diverse culinary heritage. They combine traditional English food with exotic Greek gyros and Caribbean specialties.
“We just had a shop in Portland, Dorset, where we’ve been for the last few years,” explained Claire. “It’s a similar concept to making stuffed rolls, hot and cold breakfasts, cakes, pies, pâtés, hot drinks, cold drinks and the like.”
Claire believes that despite competition from nearby Greggs, Tasty’s has a unique advantage.

“We’ve seen this place for rent and even though we know there’s a Greggs nearby, it doesn’t do everything we do. For example, you can’t get mashed potatoes in Greggs,” she said. “It’s also a good position because we have a lot of people walking past us.”
Claire balances her passion for food with a vibrant career in entertainment. She said: “I am a professional singer and comedian working in many local hotels. I was at the Torbay Hotel in Torquay last night, so it works quite well because I can do this during the day and other things at night,” she said.
“I like to make cakes. I make a lot of Greek cakes and English cakes. We also do Greek gyros, a trendy item like a classy kebab. A lot of people come for it because they know they can’t get it anywhere else.”
Claire’s husband Stavros plays a secondary role in the business while managing his work. “My husband Stavros drives a taxi for disabled children and sometimes he comes and pokes his beak, but this is mainly my child,” she said.
“We got married in September; we have been together for ten years. I had a house and business that I sold in Cyprus and he had to go back to Tiverton to see people and be there for his children so we were in two different houses. I’ve decided to move here properly.”
Hailing from Bristol, Claire’s culinary skills are a rich mix of cultural influences. She said: “I’ve always cooked. I come from a big family of cooks. My grandmother was from Trinidad so Caribbean food is on the menu. I make Jamaican Patties and Jerk Chicken which also come out great. At the moment we have a menu that we’ve scraped together and we’re going with it, but there will be specials and made-to-order things.”
Claire’s passion for baking is evident in her determination. She said: “I have always been a keen cake maker. I could work in my shop all day and then go home and have a day off and make cakes on my day off because I love making them and I eat them a lot.”
The initial reception at Tasty’s was positive. Claire said: “We arrived at 6.30am on the first day and were flying around getting everything ready. No one came until about 10 o’clock and I thought it was a waste of time. But then a lot of customers came in and we had a really late morning, midday rush. Today, the first day, we bought more here than at our store in Portland, which has been there for 25 years.”
With ambitious plans for the future, Claire and Stavros dream of eventually retiring in Cyprus. She said: “We’re looking forward to making a lot of money, winning the lottery and then moving to Cyprus and not telling our family we’ve left,” she joked. Recalling their time in Cyprus, Claire added: “I was living near Famagusta where I was a holiday rep for TUI and then I quit because I could earn more money singing in hotels. When we were in Cyprus, Stavros liked to sit around sipping a frappé, so that’s what we want to do again one day.”
Tasty’s promises to satisfy hunger with its menu and provide a warm, welcoming atmosphere infused with Claire’s humor.
He puts it succinctly: “You can even get a gag when you’re doing your stuff, although you have to be careful because a lot of my comedy can be a bit dirty, so we don’t need that. we?”
