LIVE: Police close main road outside Asda with forensics tent – update

Police have closed a major road in Salford this morning following a serious incident. Great Cheetham Street East Broughton Village was closed following the incident in the early hours.

Police were at the scene and blocked the road in both directions, a spokesman for Greater Manchester Police confirmed. The nature of the incident has not yet been confirmed, but a spokesman confirmed that the Serious Accident Investigation Unit (SCIU) was investigating.



The road was closed from its junction with Bury New Road to Leicester Road, outside the Asda supermarket. Photos show a major police scene with a forensics tent in the middle of the road.

Greater Manchester Police have been asked for more information. The road was reopened at 9am.

The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning

People living near the scene of the crime on Great Cheetham Street East said it happened at around 1.30am. The incident is considered a serious accident.
