You might have been wondering when the unofficial start of the tourist season will be – especially when the weather isn’t much of an indicator of when summer is. Well don’t worry, it is now.
No tourist season in Cornwall is complete without at least one person driving onto a sandy beach and getting stuck. Well, we have one, which means silly season is now truly in full swing. That’s all this silver Subaru Forester did when it drove to Constantine Beach at Seven Bays near Padstow, and despite being an all-wheel drive car, it got stuck in the soft sand.
One bystander, who filmed the couple trying to get out of the predicament, told CornwallLive: “The silly season has started. I saw this car go down Constantine Beach last night. No one from the beach helped it out of the sand, everyone just stood.” and he was looking because it shouldn’t be there anyway.”

The incident happened on Thursday, June 6 at 8:46 p.m. One bystander said the female passenger tried to move some sand with her feet, but it made no difference, so the driver drove back and forth instead. In the video you can watch at the top of this article, the car appears to be driving but gets stuck again.
The driver can be seen swerving the car as if to gain some longer beach so he could launch himself off the sand, only to fall back into the soft sand and get stuck – again. The video shows a confused couple walking past while a group of beachgoers sit on a nearby dune taking it all in. After about 20 minutes of trying, the driver finally managed to get out.

In a video sent to us by our reader, you can see a woman standing outside the driver’s window, gesticulating and seemingly arguing with the driver, while the people who filmed the scene provide commentary.
Our reader sent us some videos of the entire incident. In one video, a woman can be heard saying, “It’s never a good idea to drive to the beach.” Another person can be heard saying, “What the f**er.” Others just snicker and quite mercilessly enjoy the pair’s misfortune.
Finally, the bearded Subaru driver manages to turn the car around before starting it and picking up speed to drive out of the sand and onto the beach.
An onlooker added: “He definitely got into a pickle and made it fun for everyone. The climb was a bit reckless, flying past people who were casually sitting around enjoying their evening.”

On this occasion no vehicle was lost to the incoming tide. No emergency services or tractors had to be deployed to pull the car out of the sand, and no one was injured except perhaps someone’s pride.
But anyone who lives here will know or have seen other incidents where cars left on beaches have met a worse fate than this Subaru.
Over the years, we’ve almost lost count of the number of times vehicles, from BMWs to DPD vans, have gotten stuck in the sand or even been lost at sea. We saw tractors being rescued, an ice cream van rolling onto the beach, cars being completely submerged – and lots of tears and hands on hips as people watched helplessly as it all unfolded.
Among the stuck vehicles, there was even a Ferrari stuck in the sand during the photo shoot. Scroll down for 24 beach parking fails we remember in Cornwall. of previous “you can’t park here mate” moments for your viewing pleasure.
