Live: South Western Railway trains canceled after emergency between Clapham Junction and Surbiton

Train services were canceled this afternoon after emergency services were called to the incident on the outskirts of London.

South Western Railway (SWR) said lines between Clapham Junction and Surbiton were affected. All services had to be stopped earlier to allow rescue teams to get onto the line, and although the route has now reopened, disruption is not expected until later in the afternoon.




Passengers have been warned that services may be cancelled, delayed or reworked. They can also use their SWR ticket on other routes, including London Underground and other National Rail operators.

Why were the lines cut?

Response teams worked with emergency services to assist with the incident. However, to allow emergency services access to the railway, all power to the track was turned off in the affected area, resulting in the shutdown of all services in the area.

While South Western Railway will resume service to a planned timetable, train services may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

Train services are returning to normal

Train services to and from these stations are returning to normal, but some services may still be cancelled, delayed or revised.

The outage is expected until 5:00 p.m.

Outage still until 7 p.m

The latest from SWR still says outages are expected by 7pm. Tickets are still being accepted on the alternative routes below:

  • By London Underground by any reasonable route
  • Southern and Thameslink by any reasonable route
  • Great Western Railway between London Paddington and Basingstoke / Exeter St Davids
  • TfL buses by any reasonable route

The outage is expected until 19:00

SWR provided an update on the delay situation and said they expect service disruptions until 7pm today.

Tickets on other services are allowed to complete your journey.
