All iPhone users have been warned not to download Apple’s latest update – or risk crashing their smartphones or apps.

Developers have been beta testing iOS 18 since Monday, revealing bugs with text notifications, battery life, photo storage, and the new “Lock and Hide App” feature — among other things.

While the beta version is intended for such trials, average users are taking a risk by downloading it as their main software.

“People looking to download iOS 18, be warned – it will be buggy, it may brick your iPhone, and some apps may not work with it,” said one developer on X.

“Be warned – it’s beta for a reason.”

While the details may seem like Apple’s software is flawed, it’s usually riddled with bugs before it’s released to the masses.

The new iOS 18 was unveiled at Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which includes ways to customize the home screen, schedule text messages, lock and hide apps, and AI-powered features.

All users can download the updated operating system, which will run as a developer beta on smartphones.

However, the version is designed for early developers who are trained to find software bugs that can cause iPhones to become unstable.

Glitches can prevent apps from running or worse, crash your device.

Developer John William Archer discovered that his iPhone 12 Pro Max automatically reboots when he leaves the lock screen.

Another bug was found with the new App Lock and Hide feature, which can make apps “invisible” or only accessible through Face ID authentication.

Archer said he couldn’t open the app once he locked or hid it.

This feature was designed to hide certain apps, such as banking, from the home screen or prevent children from purchasing items on Amazon without parental consent.

However, users dubbed it a “cheater’s paradise” as unfaithful partners were able to hide their dating apps, social networks, text messages and photos from others.

The Apple enthusiast, who goes by the name Jaden, revealed what he called a “major bug” – none of his photos or videos were being saved to the Photos app.

“Man, this is not a good start,” said the technical expert on X.

Another user shared that the issue with iOS 18 is that the update drains their iPhone 15 Pro Max “like crazy.”

Along with the new features, Apple also announced a new “Apple Intelligence” based on OpenAI ChatGPT.

CEO Tim Cook said at the unveiling that Apple Intelligence marks “a new chapter in Apple’s innovation” and will “change what users can do with our products.”

“Our unique approach combines generative artificial intelligence with the user’s personal context to deliver truly useful information,” said Cook.

ChatGPT will be integrated with Siri, Apple’s built-in virtual assistant.

With better “language understanding capabilities” enabled by ChatGPT, Siri will help you across different apps and “make everyday tasks faster,” Apple said.

You’ll be able to press and hold the side button to activate Siri as usual, but with ChatGPT behind it, Siri will be able to ‘answer thousands of questions about how to do something’, which she couldn’t before.

For example, you can say, “Play that podcast Jamie recommended,” and Siri will find and play the episode without the user having to remember if it was mentioned in a text or email.

Or you can ask, ‘When does mom land?’ and Siri finds flight details and compares them to real-time flight tracking to provide an arrival time.

Apple insists that private information about users and their queries will not be logged or stored by Siri, unlike the regular version of ChatGPT.

The partnership will enable AI-generated emoticons, allowing users to enter a short prompt for a unique emoticon into iMessage and the system will deliver the icon upon request.

And this technology has enabled the new Clean Up tool for the Photos app, which allows for very clean photo editing – without any hint that the image has been tampered with in any way.
