An Italian-American bar and restaurant inside a sundrap, it’s the right place for this summer

Nestled along the sun-kissed shores of one of Cornwall’s most visited seaside resorts, there’s a new bar and restaurant in town that combines laid-back, friendly charm with good vibes and fun mini-golf antics – and it could be the season’s hottest opening.

ROSA on Tower Road in Newquay opened to much anticipation back in April. A sister business to the popular HERD, the burger joint that opened to much fanfare last year is already proving to be quite the success story. So successful, in fact, that within weeks of opening, people are already queuing up to sample what’s on offer.

Kindly invited by the team, a few of us stopped by on Saturday to try it out for ourselves. It’s in a proper sun trap where we’re told the sun stays up day and night – a huge bonus as the summer season approaches, but there’s also a colorful and charming restaurant inside if you’re looking for a bit of shelter (or if our lack of summer already lasts).

Staff tell us it’s all about combining great food and drink with a relaxed and fun atmosphere – with reasonable prices – and if that’s what they’re looking for, they’re on point with these plans to deliver. Smiles all around with staff who couldn’t do enough for you, coupled with the soothing backdrop of the sea, this is a great destination for couples, groups of friends and even families.

The 18-hole golf course, which has been around for more than 60 years, has been redesigned and brings to the table a place of old-fashioned fun with a lot of twists. It was a rewarding activity and brought something different to a typical day. Some were more difficult than others and none of the holes were too difficult or boring, making them suitable for all ages.

The delicious new menu combines Italian and American dishes. Colorful plates of fresh pasta made daily include homemade fettuccine alfredo, alla carbonara or ragu of the day, and the small plates concept means you can try even more dishes – as you should. Pizzetta dishes including pepperoni, mascarpone and hot honey join a hearty menu that also includes burrata, unique fried lasagna, olives and more.
