Modern Life Is Good – GTPlanet

After four weeks of retrofuturism, the next new series of Forza Horizon 5 will focus on modern cars as Modern Horizons begins on Thursday, June 20.

The new series, the 35th to date, was revealed and discussed in Playground Games’ latest “Let’s Go” stream ahead of the game’s accompanying update on June 18.

It’s mostly about the cars this month, with the map aesthetic returning to its standard form, but with 10 new cars – five free and about five in the new paid DLC pack – as well as some other new items, there’s still a lot to go through.

Forza Horizon 5 Series 35 New Free Cars

Two different vehicles headline this series and are two sides of the ICE/power electric car coin.

The one PG chose to illustrate the stream was the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, a new high-performance model based on the brand’s all-electric Ioniq 5 as it continues to expand its video game offering. It boasts more than 600 hp – and closer to 640 hp for short bursts – from a pair of electric motors, though interestingly the official web post only lists figures for the regular twin-engine, all-wheel-drive car.

Alternatively, there’s the Ford Mustang Dark Horse, which seems to be the cover car for the series. Aside from the GT3-based GTD, it’s the new top dog (or horse, we guess) in the Mustang lineup, offering 500 horsepower from a five-liter naturally aspirated V8.

However, even this is not a reward for overall progress in the series, as that honor goes to the Kia EV6 GT. This is the sibling of the Ioniq 5 N — and Kia’s de facto Stinger replacement as its sporty GT offering. Compared to the regular EV6, the underside has been almost completely redesigned, making it almost a completely different car, matching 5N to 60mph despite the lower 577bhp output.

Another powerful electric car comes from the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo Turbo S, a 750-horsepower Taycan Turbo S sedan body wagon that arrived in the game at launch. Finally, there’s the long-awaited debut for the little Toyota GR Yaris, created as a homologation special for a competition car that – thanks to a change in regulations – never came into existence in this form. It’s still an excellent hot hatch though, with an adjustable AWD system that has two settings in play.

New Forza Horizon 5 Series 35 paid DLC cars

Depending on your point of view, there are three or five cars in the new paid DLC pack called “Universal Icons” and priced at $/€9.99. They’re all straight from the big and small screens from Universal Pictures, and it’s an interesting selection.

The controversial one — or three — will be the most famous DeLorean in the world. It appears to have the official and impractical title of “Time Machine from Back to the Future” and comes in three of the five vehicle forms.

They include the original Outatime build from the first film, a modified Mr. A Fusion from the second (but not flying) and a high-performance car rebuilt with 1950s components from the third. Whatever your preference, when a kid hits 88 mph, you’re going to see some… special effects.

Joining this will be the semi-sentient (and perhaps the last good example of benevolent AI) Knight Industries Two Thousand — or KITT — complete with a “Hot Pursuit” extra body kit and the slightly less famous Jeep Wrangler Sahara from Jurassic Park. Interesting fact: this is the only one of the selection in which someone was eaten alive.

Forza Horizon 5 Series 35 Collectibles and Cosmetics

The Universal love-in continues with a new costume that all players can choose from this month’s playlist, in the form of a head-to-toe shark costume. At least we assume it is from Jawsand not the Super Bowl star who marches to the beat of his own drum, the Left Shark.

Also appearing on the tracklist this month is a Robot collectible that resembles WALL-E’s sporty version of EVE if the Cupra is made. Starting this month, you’ll be able to add it to your EventLab creations.

In addition, EventLab acquires a number of highway sections. There are a total of 17 new pieces that allow you to recreate any highway of your choice, with a snap feature on all of them.

Forza Horizon 5 Series 35 More changes

A small number of other changes are listed here, the only specific one being a bug fix in the Volkswagen ID.4 gear ratios. Otherwise, the update is about game stability.

You should be able to download the update and start accessing the content – including the DLC pack – from around 1600 UTC on Tuesday 18 June. Series 35 itself will launch on Thursday, June 20 at 1430 UTC.

PG also teased Series 36, “Horizon Cars and Coffee,” which promises a little caffeine boost to the playlist in July.
