Your best look yet on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6

Updated June 17 with details on the next Galaxy Unpacked event: article originally published June 15.

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event will be when the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will be unveiled to the public. Still, many hardware and design details have been revealed in the run-up to the July launch. Now we have our best look yet at a next-gen foldable device.

Update: Monday, June 17.

While Samsung has yet to publicly confirm the dates of the next Galaxy Unpacked event, the leaked images were published by tech reporter Evan Blass. This highlighted July 10 as the launch date when the new Galaxy Z Fold 6 is expected to be unveiled alongside the smaller foldable Galaxy Z Flip 6, the new Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra, and the Galaxy Buds 3 and Buds 3 Pro. .

With several smartphone launches over the next few months, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will be one of the first flagships to be unveiled in the second half of the year. Samsung took the lead with the January launch of the Galaxy S24 family and bundled Galaxy AI software. Now they’re looking to do the same with their two new foldable devices.

Notably, the July 10 date is earlier than the previous Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled for the summer. As Samsung is one of the main sponsors of the Summer Olympics, the launch of its new hardware ahead of its association with one of the biggest global sporting events should allow for a significant number of activations during the French hosting of the Games.

New design details come from trusted Ice Universe insider. A post on X (nay Twitter) offers clear views of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 from several angles. These mock-up units are usually provided to peripheral manufacturers to test their accessories and fittings alongside an accurate reference model.

While we don’t get to see the impact of the Galaxy AI, we can see everything that’s inside.

First up is the wider cover screen. Physically, it’s not much of a difference to the Galaxy Z Fold 5, but the impact on the tall and thin profile could be substantial. The Android user interface loves a big, long strip of information, whether it’s a social media timeline, an email inbox, or a playlist, but these lists need enough width to display enough information. It was a bit cramped on older models, so I’m looking forward to seeing how this little extension works out.

Then you have the silhouette of the design. Samsung updated it to offer the Galaxy Z Fold 6 a more angular shape. This slightly increases the internal volume (which the original designers no doubt appreciated). It also reduces the corner radius, which in turn offers a sharper corner of the cover screen and internal display. This means more screen space, less lost information when viewing media, and a more natural look for your information.

Finally, you have the camera island and the three camera lenses. Many in the Samsung community were hoping that the Z Fold 6 would see an update to the foldable device’s optical hardware. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 camera was reused on last year’s Z Fold 5. The latest details have shown that Samsung is using the same hardware in the third model, and the Ice Universe model supports this information.

The industry is adopting AI as fast as it can, and Samsung has tried hard to take the lead through Galaxy AI in the Galaxy S24 family (as well as backporting AI features to the Galaxy S23 family). The Galaxy Z Fold 6 will add AI to this effort along with new hardware.
