Full list of recalled products from sandwich purveyors amid UK E. coli outbreak

Sandwich and salad maker Greencore Group, which supplies stores such as Asda and Sainsbury’s, has recalled a number of products, ITV News’ Ian Woods reported.

Sandwiches, wraps and salads sold at a number of major British supermarkets are being recalled due to a possible link to an E. coli outbreak that has left people in hospital.

Officials from manufacturers Greencore Group, Samworth Brothers Manton Wood and THIS! stated that the move was a “precautionary measure”.

E. coli is usually a harmless bacteria found in the intestines of people and animals, but people infected with strains like Stec can become very sick.

As of 11 June, the number of cases linked to the Stec outbreak stood at 211, an increase of 98 since the UK Health Safety Agency’s (UKHSA) previous update on 6 June. Based on information from 160 cases so far, 42% were admitted to hospital.

Earlier this month, the agency confirmed that at least 37 people were hospitalized after an E. coli outbreak it believed was food-related.

Whole-genome sequencing of the samples showed that most of the 113 cases reported in the UK between May 25 and June 4 were part of a single outbreak. About 147 cases have been confirmed in England, 27 in Wales, 35 in Scotland and two in Northern Ireland who are believed to have contracted the disease in England.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said Greencore Group was recalling products from retailers including Boots, Asda, the Co-op, Aldi and Amazon due to “possible E.coli contamination”.

Darren Whitby, head of incidents at the FSA, described the move as a “precautionary measure” taken “in response to findings from investigations by the Food Standards Agency (FSA), Food Standards Scotland (FSS) and the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA)”. .

“Infections caused by STEC bacteria can cause severe bloody diarrhea and, in some cases, more serious complications. We therefore advise all consumers who have any of these products not to eat them,” he added.

He said the FSA “will not hesitate to take action” if food is unsafe.
