This latest Galaxy S25 camera news may be disappointing, but don’t despair just yet

As excited as you were to hear about the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s potentially massive camera upgrades last month, we’re afraid the latest rumor about the most modest member of Samsung’s next (non-folding) flagship phone family will seriously dampen your excitement. .

Yes, it appears that the “base” Galaxy S25 will continue to feature… a basic primary camera on the back, at least according to an extremely well-connected Dutch publication that is almost never wrong about these types of things (not even six or seven months ago official launch of the phone).

Will the Galaxy S25 take disappointing pictures?

Not at all. We know, we know, you probably expected us to offer you the typical “too soon to tell” answer to this seemingly tricky and obviously premature question. However, it’s definitely not too early to know that the ‘vanilla’ Galaxy S24 makes good use of its 50MP main camera and provides an overall satisfactory photography experience for most users… who obviously can’t afford the better S24 Ultra.
The same will likely be true for the Galaxy S25 without the Plus and Ultra if this new report (translated here) pans out and the said 50-megapixel sensor is indeed not upgraded in any way, shape or form. .
Non-Plus and Non-Ultra Galaxy S24remember, it’s undoubtedly one of the best Android phones in the world today in every aspect from raw performance to build quality, software support, and yes, camera prowess, and while this list is guaranteed to see a lot of changes in 2025, we’re willing to bet farm that the Galaxy S25 will find a place on said list when it makes its commercial debut.

Additionally, it’s important to note that megapixels aren’t everything, and just because the S25 is tipped to retain the camera resolution of its predecessor doesn’t mean the sensor itself remains unchanged. Obviously, not all 50MP cameras are created equal, so there are still many improvements Samsung could make without necessarily jumping to 108 or 200 megapixels.

And that’s before we even get to software optimizations, which are often more important to a phone’s true photographic prowess than hardware revisions, not to mention the increasingly sophisticated AI technologies that are all the rage in the mobile industry today. Bottom line, it’s actually too early to predict how The Galaxy S25 will be good in terms of imaging, but it’s probably not too early to expect it to be good at… almost everything.

What about all the other cameras?

Unfortunately, there’s no word yet on the Galaxy S25’s secondary and tertiary rear latches, which may or may not mean Samsung is preparing more meaningful and obvious upgrades in those two departments. This semi-mysterious news comes after the S25 Ultra was rumored to increase the megapixel count on both the telephoto and ultra-wide lenses of its predecessor, which definitely raises our expectations for the S25 and S25 Plus as well.

Incidentally, the Galaxy S25 Plus today is explicitly tipped to share a 12MP front-facing camera with its younger sibling, but it’s currently unclear whether the same will be true of the aforementioned 50MP primary rear sensor. History suggests this will almost certainly be the case, but you never know when Samsung might decide to change its strategy and more clearly separate the “regular” and Plus members of its Galaxy S family.
Of course, the Galaxy S25 series is still there many months from the official announcement and commercial release, so all these speculations and conjectures may turn out to be futile in the end, as Samsung itself probably hasn’t finalized many details, specifications and features at this point.
