Surprising content on Seal II audio blu-ray – SuperDeluxeEdition

Sealing the second album was re-released last week and the blu-ray audio – available only as part of the 2CD+blu-ray deluxe edition – brought unexpected content.

Rhino/Warner Records told everyone it only included a Dolby Atmos mix aa stereo mix in high definition 96/24, so vendors that offered this format—including the SDE store—naturally repeated these details. But now the product has been released and it turns out that there is a third audio stream on the blu-ray: a 5.1 Surround sound mix!

No mention of 5.1 mix on disc (or cover)

It’s not mentioned at all on the packaging or disc, it’s only when you insert the blu-ray disc into the player and the menu screen comes up that you notice that “DTS 5.1‘ it is possible. This is actually a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 mix at 96/24. This appears to be a 5.1 mix included in the 2005 US only CD+DVD edition and is not rendered from the new Atmos mix.

This is great news for Seal fans, as the long sold out CD+DVD edition is very hard to come by and – until now – was the only way to get the 5.1 mix.

Whether this was planned ‘Easter Egg’ content, a last-minute addition, or just a cock-up, we’ll leave it up to you. It’s not all positive news, as the hi-res stereo mix (marked bizarrely as ‘DTS Stereo’) isn’t 96/24 as promised, but is actually 48/24.
