In a huge number of books, based on the terrible weather of previous years, The Hoppings got into a real incinerator with all those people who gathered for the pilgrimage the next day and basked in the wonderful weather.
They always say you know when The Hoppings are in Newcastle because it’s totally throwing it off, but in the end all our prayers were answered as there was nothing but sun, sun and more sun on Saturday, after Friday’s opening ceremony it also took place under the blue sky.
While organizers have confirmed that this year’s edition will be ‘a bit smaller’ due to ground problems on the Town Moor caused by the rains of the last few months; There’s still plenty to enjoy at the fair, with rides on site including the new 60m Big Wheel, the largest of its kind in Europe, and the new XXL ride, which joins the Moor’s white knee offering.

As well as The Hoppings’ many rides, there are also plenty of side shows as well as a number of food and drink stalls and a kids’ club with famous characters hosting meet and greets. And there were plenty of fairies of all ages in the sun on Saturday.
We were there to capture a lot of them on camera. See if you can see yourself in our pictures. And if you haven’t been to The Hoppings, there’s still plenty of time as it runs until Sunday 30 June.
