ForbesToday’s NYT ‘Strands’ Advice, Spangram and Answers for Wednesday June 26th

Hey everyone! I hope you are having a great week so far.

Today’s NYT Springs hints, spangram and answers are coming.

How to play Strands

The New York Times Springs puzzle is a classic word search game. It’s still in beta, which means it’ll only stick around if enough people play it every day.

There is a new game Springs play every day. The game presents you with a six by eight grid of letters. The goal is to find a group of words that have something in common and give you an idea of what the topic is. When you find a topic, the topic will remain highlighted in blue.

You will also need to find a special word called a spangram. This will tell you what the words have in common. A spangram connects at least two sides of the board, but must not start or end there. While the topic words will not be a proper noun, a spangram can be a proper noun. When you find a spangram, it will remain highlighted in yellow.

Each letter is used once in one of the theme words and the spangram. You can connect letters vertically, horizontally and diagonally, and it is possible to switch directions in the middle of a word. If you’re playing on a touch screen, double-tap the last letter to submit your guess.

If you find three valid words containing at least four letters that are not part of the theme, you will unlock the Help button. Click this to highlight the letters that make up one of the theme words.

Be warned: You’ll have to be on your toes. Sometimes you will need to fill in the missing word(s) in a phrase. On other days, the game may revolve around synonyms or homophones. The difficulty will vary from day to day and the puzzle makers will try to surprise you at times.

First I’ll tell you the spangram and show you where it is on the grid. Then I’ll tell you more words and show you how they fit together.

This is your last warning!

today’s Springs spangram is…

COMBINED MEALS

Here you can find it on the grid…

The rest of today Springs the topic words are…

  • MACARONI
  • COOKIES
  • HAMBURGER
  • COMBINED MEALS
  • SAUCE
  • FRENCH FRIES
  • CHEESE

This is what the finished grid looks like…

My first instinct was to look for things that usually come in pairs, although I think it was a Springs topic before. However, when I discovered GRAVY in the lower right corner, it occurred to me. Sure enough, the BISCUITS on the top right made me realize that we are literally looking for two things that go together.

Then I found CHEESE at the bottom, but it goes well with everything! However, I didn’t see the letters for “crackers” or “wine” anywhere. The FRIES in the lower left made me think the BURGER was on the grill somewhere. Of course I found it seconds later. This helped the spangram stand out and left MACARONI (which is a really great pair for cheese) for the win.

Oddly enough, I had mac and cheese for dinner one night this week.

I didn’t need any hints to complete this grid and had a perfect game. Spangram was the sixth topic I found.

That’s all for today Springs clues and answers. Be sure to check out my blog for Friday game tips and tricks if you need them.
