Festival-goers at Glastonbury 2024 are facing delays after a train reportedly hit a person, causing the closure of lines for passengers leaving London.
The British Transport Police informed about it Daily mail that its officers were called to the scene at about 7.30am today following “reports of an accident on the tracks”. The force said paramedics were also at the scene but “sadly the person was pronounced dead at the scene”.
Thousands more Glastonbury ticket holders will arrive at Worthy Farm in Somerset today as fears of a washout are eased by the latest Met Office report, which predicts clouds and the “odd spot of rain” ahead of sunshine and isolated showers this afternoon.
The weather is expected to remain mostly dry until Sunday, with temperatures hovering around 18 to 21°C.
Over the course of the weekend, the sprawling festival’s various stages will feature an eclectic lineup. You can see the full Glastonbury line-up and set times here.
Earlier this week Glastonbury organizers confirmed they would not be showing England’s Euro 2024 matches during the festival.
If you’re watching from home, the BBC has shared its coverage schedule for the weekend.

Our critic James Hall took some photos of around 450 runners, who call themselves Ravers 2 Runners, as they toured the Glastonbury festival site.
“To each their own, they’re having an absolute blast,” he says. “Personally, I’m keeping it old school… I’m going to have a wood sauna in an old caravan in an old travelers field.

Warning of delays to GWR trains from London after the incident closed the tracks
Great Western Railway (GWR) earlier said all lines were blocked at West Ealing in the west of the capital due to “emergency services dealing with an incident near the railway”.
This has affected services to and from London Paddington, which is on the route serving Castle Cary in Somerset, the nearest station to the Glastonbury Festival.
This was confirmed by a spokeswoman for the train carrier The Independent that the lines are now open again.
“Trains are now running to and from Paddington, including those serving Glastonbury Festival, but there will be some residual delays due to train and crew misplacements,” they added.

The Independent’s Glastonbury team are reporting dark clouds and some rain this morning
Our intrepid team of reporters and critics are on the ground at Glastonbury Festival and writer Adam White sends in a picture of some ominous looking clouds hovering over Worthy Farm.
“It’s started to rain!” he tells me, but is reassured when I point out that the Met Office says it should* clear up this afternoon.

Hundreds of other artists will perform throughout the week, with set times allowing fans to see if they’ll have time to hop from one stage to another to see their favorites.
There are also a few surprise slots, including a “TBA” marked Saturday at 6pm on the Woodsies stage. Previous surprise performers at Glastonbury have included The Killers, Radiohead and Foo Fighters.

Warning for Glastonbury fans amid travel disruption
Music fans traveling to Glastonbury Festival by train on Thursday may face disruption.
Great Western Railway (GWR) said all lines are blocked at West Ealing, west London, due to “emergency services dealing with an incident near the railway”.
This affects services to and from London Paddington, which is on the route serving Castle Cary, the nearest station to Glastonbury Festival.
Commuters are being warned to expect service disruptions until midday.
GWR said earlier this month that it plans to provide festival-goers with more than 28,600 seats on trains from London Paddington to Castle Cary from Wednesday to Friday.
It warned that morning and afternoon trains on Wednesday and Thursday were almost fully booked.
