Everything we know about the 8th Anniversary Party in Pokemon Go

The 8th Anniversary Party for Pokémon Go is underway until Wednesday 3 July at 20:00 (local time) and there are a number of bonuses, including some running on certain days, that you can enjoy.

Gimmighoul and his coins also have a bonus!

Let’s start with the four that take place throughout the event, with the first three targeting your Pokémon Go friends. During the 8th Anniversary Party, your friendship levels with other trainers will increase faster – from opening presents to trading Pokémon. When it comes to trading Pokemon, you’ll have an increased chance to become Lucky Friends with another trainer and get the same Lucky Pokemon from the trainers.

The fourth bonus running during the event will allow you to earn 8, 88 or possibly even more Gimmighoul Coins for spinning the PokéStop where you placed the Golden Lure.

Now for the spinning bonuses:

  • From Friday, June 28 at 10:00 a.m. to Saturday, June 29 at 11:59 p.m. (local time) – Hatching distance will be halved for eggs placed in incubators during these event hours
  • From Sunday, June 30 at 12:00 a.m. to Monday, July 1 at 11:59 p.m. (local time) – Double XP catch
  • From Tuesday 2nd July at 12:00pm to Wednesday 3rd July at 8:00pm (local time) – Double Stardust Hold

Keep these timings and bonuses in mind so you don’t miss out!

With those bonuses aside, let’s take a look at the paid aspect of the 8th Anniversary Party, as similar to last year’s Anniversary, some players will have a chance to catch a shiny Mythical Pokemon.

Whispers in the Woods is a Masterworks Research paid quest that gives players a chance to catch a shiny Celebi. It costs $5 or the equivalent in your local currency and will be on sale until 8:00 PM (local time) on Wednesday, July 3rd. While Whispers in the Woods does not have a deadline as it is a Masterwork Research quest, you must ensure that it has been properly unlocked after purchase by playing Pokemon Go at least once after purchasing it by Wednesday, July 3rd at 8:00 PM (local time ).

If you have already completed Distracted By Something Shiny – the original shiny Celebi Masterwork Research quest – you will No be able to purchase this quest. Instead, during the 8th Anniversary Party event, you can enjoy three additional bonuses – double the duration of Incense, double the duration of Daily Adventure Incense, and double the duration of Lucky Egg. These bonuses are also available to players who purchase Whispers in the Woods.

In addition to Whispers in the Woods, you can also purchase the paid quest Timed Research during the 8th Anniversary Celebration. It costs $2 or the equivalent in your local currency, is non-refundable, cannot be purchased with PokéCoins, but can be gifted to players you are great friends with or higher. The challenge is on theme eight so enjoy it and it must be completed by Wednesday July 3rd at 8pm (local time) if you bring it.

Now that we’ve removed the paid research quests for the time being, it’s time for new costume Pokemon for the 8th Anniversary Party event. It’s Party Hat Grimer and Party Hat Muk! I was honestly hoping for something a little more creative, but hey…

However, the 8th anniversary party gives us another chance to meet the shiny Meltan! Additionally, you can open the Mystery Box more often during this event, increasing your chances of encountering this shiny Pokemon.
