Pub-goers are just starting to realize what it means to be handed a red plate at Wetherspoons and left stunned

The great thing about Wetherspoons is that you usually know exactly what to expect when you walk through the door.

However, some people were confused when their food appeared with an unexpected surprise.

One foodie shared his astonishment that the meal was delivered to their partner on a red patterned plate instead of Wetherspoons’ usual blue.

The woman uploaded a photo of the unexpected dishes to Reddit and captioned it: “My BF got a red plate at Wetherspoons.”

They added: “The spoon plates are always blue, we’ve never seen red before.”

And she’s not the only person to have gotten it over the years, with other people claiming it’s happened to them too.

People were fast miracle at that wonder, with one inscription: “🚨 YOU HAVE A RED PLATE! 🚨.”

Another commented: “If you get a red plate in spoons, take it to the bar and get a free drink.”

And one former Spoons worker said they never saw anyone when they worked at the chain.

But what does that mean?

One person suggested: “Are you their millionth customer?”

And one wrote: “I think you’ve accidentally wandered into an alternate dimension.”

Wetherspoons is bringing back the ‘legendary’ item across all 809 locations – but you’ll have to be quick

Fortunately, a Wetherspoons spokesperson cleared up the mystery to the Daily Star.

They said: “Wetherspoon trialled the red plate in small numbers pubs for use with children’s meals so that all children’s meals are served on a cold plate.

“The company has since moved on and has just launched a melamine plate for the entire children’s menu, which is in line with the design of the children’s menu.

“But there will be a supply of the old red plate in circulation until it breaks.

“We have no plans to change the standard blue patterned plate anytime soon.”

We’ve shared how Wetherspoons has added four new drinks to its menu in a huge shake-up – and it’s sure to be a hit with punters.

The pub chain has introduced new drinks to its main bar menu.

And it’s good news for those who don’t drink or want to reduce their alcohol intake as they are all low alcohol or no alcohol.

Fans will now be able to buy Corona Cero, Thatchers Zero %, Guinness 0.0 and Adnams Ghost Ship in all 809 Wetherspoons branches.

Corona Cero is a non-alcoholic beer from Corona, brewed from 100% natural ingredients.

For those who like the taste of cider but don’t want the booze, Thatchers Zero % is a twist on the classic cider.

Guinness 0.0 has the same smooth taste, balanced taste and unique dark color as Guinness, only without the alcohol.

Adnams Ghost Ship is a low-alcohol version of Southwold Brewery’s citrusy pale ale.

The drinks join six other low- or no-alcohol drinks already on Wetherspoons’ menu, including Heineken 0.0.

How to save money at Wetherspoons

WETHERSPOONS is known for its low prices, but there are ways to spend even more money at the chain.

Every year, Spoons hosts Tax Equality Day to highlight the benefits of a permanently reduced tax bill for the pub industry.

It usually takes place in September, and last year it fell on Thursday, September 14.

As well as the 12-day Real Ale festival every autumn, Wetherspoons also hosts a spring festival.

Wetherspoons is known for its meal deals that run throughout the week.

These include Tuesday Steak Club, Thursday Curry Club and Fish Friday.

For example, a standard curry club meal with an alcoholic drink costs between £8.55 and £9.19.

Outside of the deal, you’d expect to pay around a fiver more for the same meal.

With the purchase of one hot drink, you can enjoy bottomless beers all day at participating Wetherspoons pubs.

The menu includes Tetley tea and a range of Lavazza coffees including flat white, latte, cappuccino and Americano.

Prices start from just 99p but may vary depending on your location.
