Book in advance
Booking as early as possible will help you get the best price and availability. You can book up to 12 weeks in advance.
This way you will be able to choose the train you want to travel on and at the same time you will be able to book a return journey. There is no possibility to reserve a specific seat, but it guarantees you a seat on the train of your choice and a place in the queue for priority boarding.
Please arrive 30 minutes before the service
Give yourself enough time to catch the train. At peak times, queuing systems will be in place and people who have pre-booked will receive priority boarding.
Remember that children under 5 are free
If you are traveling with children under the age of 5, their tickets are completely free when accompanied by a parent or guardian paying the fare.
Resist the urge to buy food to go
The temptation to take everything, including the kitchen sink, on trips is great – but there’s only a limited amount of space on trains. There are excellent supermarkets at the train station including Tesco and Lidl right on the doorstep.
Reduce the size of your bedding with free vacuum packaging
EMR offers free vacuum packs to help save space in suitcases and on trains. They are ideal for bulky bedding and for those who are on vacation for a longer period of time.
To get your vacuum bag, contact our Customer Relations team here, call us on 03457 125 678 or email contact@eastmidlandsrailway.co.uk to order your free pack.
In the group? Take a taxi from the station
If you are traveling to Butlins from the station and there are five of you – it may be cheaper to get a taxi. Taxis from the station to the entrance to Butlins cost around £10 and you can book in advance with Reds Cabs (who are affiliated with Butlins) on 01754 765555, but there is also a taxi rank across the road from Costa Coffee.
Take advantage of the rainy options
If the weather turns bad, there’s still work to do. You can take a trip to Wonder Circus, look at the posters in the city, because very often there are special offers where children go for free and tickets at a reduced price.
Neverland Theater also presents its annual summer pantomime, which is always great fun and great value for money.
Lazy days by the pool
One of the best things to do in Skegness when it’s sunny is the Skegness Pool and Fitness Suite next to the Embassy Theatre. Advance booking is essential on hot summer days as this outdoor pool can get really busy.
