ForbesToday’s NYT “Connections” Tips and Answers for Monday, July 1st

Hi people! One of my favorite sporting events of the year, Wimbledon, is underway. So I will be spending most of this week and next week in front of the TV enjoying what is sure to be top-notch tennis from the best players in the world. (At least when I’m not watching Euro 2024.)

today’s RIVET Connection hints and answers keep coming.

How to play hookup

in Connection, you will see a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by finding the links between them. Groups can be things like horror movie franchises, type of verbs, or rappers.

There is only one solution to each puzzle, and you’ll need to be careful about words that may fall into more than one category. You can mix up the words so you might see connections between them.

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to detect, the blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the hardest to deduce. The purple group often includes puns, so keep that in mind.

Select four words that you think go well together and hit submit. If you guess and are not wrong, you will lose a life. If you’re close to getting the group right, you might get a message saying you’re one word away from getting it right, but you’ll still have to figure out which one to replace.

If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with a few tips, and if you’re really struggling, today’s Connection answers.

Warning: spoiler! Don’t scroll any further on the page until you’re ready to find out today Connection answers.

This is your last warning!

today’s Connection the answers are…

  • Yellow group – packing (away) for future use (SQUIRREL, STASH, STORE, STOW)
  • Green Group — adjectives for assets (SOLID, FROZEN, LIQUID, TOXIC)
  • Blue group — Latin words (CAVEAT, ERGO, QUID, VOX)
  • Purple Group — ____ Game (ADJECTIVE, BLAME, NUMBERS, SQUID)

I am very happy to be back on the winning track after two losses.

It took me a few minutes to get going today. STASH, STOW and STORE had prerequisites as a group, but I didn’t see a fourth to go with them. I looked away and realized that ERGO, QUID, and VOX looked like Latin things a lawyer might say. CAVEAT made sense with that.

I turned my attention back to yellow and tried guessing with FIXED. I’m not sure why I chose to do this, but it killed my chances of a perfect game. A few seconds later I realized that SQUIRREL was the mysterious fourth word.

The grid pushed ARCADE and SQUID together, making it easier to deduce the purple group. That left the green to win.

That’s all for today Connection clues and answers. Be sure to check out my blog for hints and solutions for the Wednesday game if you need them.

PS One of my favorite arcade games of all time is The Simpsons. It’s a great beat ’em up that you can play with up to three friends. It also allowed for some pretty awesome double team moves. I need to find an arcade that still has this… or maybe just splurge and have my own machine at home.
