“There were just a lot of police cars everywhere”

A city council employee who started work at 8.30am said officers asked her to unlock the bin so they could search for something. She said: “There were just loads of police cars everywhere and I was asked to unlock one of the bins. The police were looking for something, but I don’t know what. They said something happened at 5:10, but they didn’t tell me more.”

McDonald’s remains closed

A member of staff at a nearby business said forensics officers, wearing masks and gloves, were taking photographs of the ground outside the McDonald’s and were also inside the restaurant. She said: “The road was closed when I got here at 8.45am and forensics were just finishing up. The closure caused a lot of traffic problems elsewhere in the city centre. I’ve never seen an entire road closed like this here.” McDonald’s is currently still closed to customers.
