Commuters were hit by major disruption across London London Underground, Overground and services to Heathrow Airport.

All trains between Heathrow and central London have been suspended for “tunnel safety reasons”, National Rail has warned.

Holidaymakers traveling on the Elizabeth and Heathrow Express services are affected by severe disruption to services to and from the airport.

National Rail said: “The Heathrow Tunnel is closed for safety reasons, meaning trains cannot run to and from Heathrow Airport.

“Trains will be canceled or revised as a result.”

Elizabeth line trains between Abbey Wood and Heathrow Terminals 4 and 5 cannot run.

The Heathrow Express between London Paddington and Heathrow Terminal 5 is also suspended.

Major disruption is expected until at least 9am and trains will be canceled or revised, the company said.

National Rail said the safety issue was caused by “a problem with the ventilation system in the Heathrow tunnels”, so trains cannot run until “Network Rail resolves this issue”.

The London Underground Piccadilly line still runs to and from the airport.
