An EasyJet passenger plane made an emergency landing in Gatwick Airport after being hit by a mid-air “hydraulic failure”.

The plane was carrying about 244 tourists to the Spanish island of Tenerife at the time of the incident.

Flight U28033 was flying over western France this morning when it broadcast distress code 7700, MailOnline reports.

It was forced to turn back to Gatwick, where it had departed from.

The Airbus A321neo passenger plane reportedly suffered a hydraulic failure around 8:40 a.m., the source said, citing Flight Emergency.

A spokeswoman for Gatwick Airport told the newspaper: “The aircraft landed safely and there was no operational impact on the airport.”

One passenger claimed tourists had to wait more than an hour on the tarmac after landing back at Gatwick before they could leave.

Brian Marcel, 78, from London, who was on his way to Tenerife for a three-day golf holiday, told the paper how some of the youngsters on board were ‘standing up’ before flight attendants told them ‘unruly behaviour’ would get them. fired.

When the plane landed, the plane had to be towed “because there were no hydraulics,” he said.

Images from the plane show a police officer talking to some of the passengers.

Another passenger, Annie Passingham, 32, from Bracknell, claimed the group of men who bought the vodka were ‘drinking’ and ‘being verbally aggressive’.

But the group calmed down after police boarded the jet, she told MailOnline.

While Mr Marcel said there was “no panic” when the plane turned back, others said some fellow passengers appeared frightened.

Ms Passingham told the paper that some of the children appeared to be panicking along with the man, who was to be married in Tenerife on Friday.

After waiting on the tarmac, the frustrated holidaymakers were eventually told they would board another plane at 1.30pm.

An EasyJet spokesperson told Metro.co.uk: “We can confirm that the captain of flight EZY8033 from London Gatwick to Tenerife has decided to return to Gatwick as a precaution due to a technical issue.

“The captain made a routine landing in accordance with standard operating procedures and the passengers disembarked normally.

“We have secured a replacement aircraft to operate the flight to Tenerife and would like to thank customers for their patience and apologize for any inconvenience caused by the delay.

“The safety and well-being of our customers and crew is our highest priority and easyJet operates its aircraft in strict accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.”

This comes after a Delta Airlines flight with 277 passengers on board made an emergency landing at JFK on Wednesday following a “contamination” incident.

Passengers were served “contaminated food” on a flight from Detroit to Amsterdam, forcing them to return to New York’s JFK airport.
