What do you need to know
- The First Descendant is a brand new MMORPG looter shooter that is making waves in the video game community.
- However, on the second day of its official release, The First Descendant’s servers experienced a lot of problems.
- Many players reported being unable to connect to the game at all, and others reported sporadic disconnections even when in the middle of missions.
- After several outages and two bouts of server maintenance, it looks like The First Descendant is finally back (and players are being compensated for the inconvenience).
Update, July 3, 2024 — Updated now that the second round of server maintenance for The First Descendant is over.
The First Descendant was barely playable for pretty much its entire second day, but the server issues are (hopefully) now fully resolved. Nexon has completed its second round of in-game server maintenance and The First Descendant is back online. I can confirm that you can log in without lag or latency.
To compensate for today’s hours of downtime, Nexon is gifting all players who log in over the next five days with a 3-day collection, a 30% increase in gold, Kuiper Shard, Descendant XP, and Weapon XP. Players can claim their compensation rewards from the HQ Mailbox and upgrades will activate immediately after cashing out.
Hopefully day three will be much smoother for the First Offspring, who need a strong win to secure a healthy future. If you want to get all the details of the whole situation as it happened, ours original article and updates continue directly below.
Server maintenance has been completed and the game is now available. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the extended maintenance and have prepared compensation. More details: https://t.co/BIpy88Rx2j■Maintenance Completion07/03 (Wed) 20:25 PDT…July 4, 2024
Update, July 3, 2024 — Updated with The First Descendant server issues reoccurring.
If you’re reading this, you’re probably like me – still having problems with the First Descendant server. Nexon has warned that there will be server instability for a while when the game comes back online, but players (myself included) are experiencing more than just instability. The previous server connection issue that prevented players from even getting past the main menu rears its ugly head again.
Hopefully this is really just a temporary side effect of all the work Nexon probably had to do on the First Offspring servers today, and our hours of (involuntary) patience will lead to healthier and more stable servers moving forward. So far, however, it looks like the second day of the first scion will be dominated by server outages and issues, with players once again unable to enter Ingris.
Update, July 3, 2024 — Updated now that The First Descendant servers are starting to come back online.
The Descendants have long waited for the war against the Vulgus to resume, and it seems the gates are beginning to open again. The First Descendant team at Nexon has confirmed that the servers are back online and players will be able to try to reconnect, but there is one caveat.
According to Nexon, the issue with Microsoft’s Azure network is still not 100% resolved, so some players may still experience server instability while playing The First Descendant. Hopefully these problems are uncommon and will be fixed quickly. Either way, it looks like we’re finally on the other side of the First Descendant’s first descent into server hell.
(Update) 07/03 (Wed) Game Connection Issues Notice# PDT 2024.07.03 (Wed) 12:05 – Server is now open. MS Network is not completely restored, you may experience unstable server statusJuly 3, 2024
Update, July 3, 2024 — Updated with a new announcement from The First Descendant team at Nexon.
A few hours later and we finally have the first proper update from The First Descendant team at Nexon. According to the update (which you can see below), the server outages still affecting the game were “primarily caused” by a bug in Microsoft’s network. The use of the word “mainly” suggests that there may be other issues that need to be addressed as well.
As for the rest of the update, it makes sense that The First Descendant uses Microsoft Azure for its server infrastructure (alongside hundreds of other games, companies, and products). An external issue on this end appears to be contributing to The First Descendant server outage. It seems the Nexon team is waiting for Microsoft to fix this issue.
It’s unclear if this has anything to do with the Xbox Network server outage that happened yesterday, which is linked directly below.
(Update) 07/03 (Wed) Game Connection Issues Notice# PDT 2024.07.03 (Wed) 00:00 – We found that the connection problem is mainly caused by MS network error and we are waiting for MS to recover. We’ll let you know when it’s restored.July 3, 2024
Update, July 3, 2024 — Updated with the latest development, which is the First Descendant going into “maintenance mode”.
Lest you believe I’ve abandoned you, here’s a quick update on The First Descendant server outage. The game has been in official maintenance mode for a while now, started by the Nexon team, so you won’t even get to the main menu.
This offline maintenance mode is a deliberate move by Nexon and will likely continue until all backend server issues are resolved, at which point the game will go back online.
Update, July 3, 2024 — Updated with a response from the First Descendant team.
Time for a quick update! Less than five minutes after this post was published, The First Descendant team at Nexon posted an update on Twitter (or X, whatever) confirming ongoing server issues, so we’re not officially hallucinating an outage. The team seems to be investigating the cause and working on a fix – hopefully we won’t have to wait long before the servers are back online.
We have noticed that game connections are temporarily unavailable. â– Details- Game connection error We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this error. We are working quickly to identify the cause and eliminate it. We will notify you once this is resolved. pic.twitter.com/Qk98RZUhFBJuly 3, 2024
For a moment, it looked like The First Descendant would narrowly avoid the almost inevitable launch day problems of many major multiplayer releases, but the effect was only delayed. We’re entering the second day of this co-op looter shooter, and the servers suddenly took a turn for the worse, leaving many Descendants completely unable to enter Ingris.
To be precise, first-timers experience an endless, repetitive error code when they first try to connect to the game’s servers and can’t get past the main menu. Players who were in the game – even in the middle of a mission – experienced sudden disconnections, leaving them in the same places as players who logged in for the first time today. It’s unclear if all players are affected, but the outage is evident on social media (and the Windows Central team has also been affected).
Right now we’re either waiting for the server issues to resolve themselves, or for The First Descendant team at Nexon to acknowledge the issues and start looking for a solution. So far neither has happened and there are no workarounds that we know of to get past the server outage.
However, we will keep you updated on the situation, as we too are certainly interested in rejoining the battle. You can look at some of The First Descendant’s other known issues and trigger bugs for other issues players are experiencing, but none are as bad as a full-blown server outage.
Honestly, I fully expected the server issues to show up sooner rather than later, so if The First Descendant team works diligently and transparently to restore the game, it won’t hurt The First Descendant’s chances of becoming one of Xbox’s best. games. It’s frustrating, though, considering the Xbox network went down yesterday.
