Prime Day 2024 has been officially announced. The summer’s hottest savings event has been a hot topic for the past few months as warm weather brings anticipation for how to save by shopping at the giant online retailer. Now we can finally share when those with Prime memberships will be able to dive into all those exclusive discounts.
Of course, it’s never too early to start making a big sale wish list. Below is everything you need to know ahead of the event, including expected deals.
Amazon Prime Day is a summer sale exclusively for Prime members. It offers two days of special savings on thousands of items across all product categories.
Amazon has officially announced that Prime Day will run on July 16th and 17th. This is no surprise as we usually see the summer sale during the second or third week of July. This year, as in previous years, it will start on Tuesday and last until the end of Wednesday.
For the past few years, Amazon Prime Day has also lasted for two days. Prior to 2020, Prime Day was always held in July, but sales were delayed in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, so Prime Day was held in October instead. In 2021, the event returned to the summer with a June date, and in 2022 and 2023, Prime Day was held in July.
Amazon has recently held similar sales events at other times of the year to expand the reach of its Prime-only offers. The first ever big spring sale took place this March, and the Amazon Prime Big Deal Days event took place in October 2023 ahead of the holiday season.
First things first: Make sure you have an Amazon Prime membership. You can sign up for a 30-day free trial, after which your membership will cost $15 per month or $139 per year. In addition to fast, free two-day shipping, you’ll also have access to Prime Video, ad-free music streaming, unlimited photo storage, and unlimited Prime Reading. Many of Prime Day’s best deals, including Lightning Deals (we’ll get to those in a second), are only available to Prime members.
Once your membership is up, you should also take a moment to make sure your payment methods, including one-click setup and default delivery, are up-to-date so you can capture the deals you want in time.
Additionally, Prime members can set up deal alerts related to their recent Amazon searches and recently viewed items in the Amazon app between today and the event. Once Prime Day begins, members will receive notifications of all available offers.
Alexa will also be able to provide notifications about deals 24 hours before they go live to everyone when you create a wishlist, add items to your cart, or save them for later. These items can also be purchased through Alexa.
While the early deals are starting to roll in, you’ll want to bookmark and check out the Amazon Deals page, where all the items included in the sale should continue to appear. Be sure to check early and often on the big day; Prime Day deals are likely to sell out quickly, and new deals will be added during the event.
You’ll also find Amazon’s famous flash deals on the page above (you can use the panel on the left side of the page to filter your view to see only flash deals).
It’s also worth checking items you’ve already purchased on Amazon to see if there are any repeat orders on sale. Prime Day will see everything under the sun discounted, and that means things like paper towels, shampoo, toothpaste, and all kinds of products you’d probably buy again anyway. So trying out the Buy Again deals feed is a great way to save some money in the process.

Amazon hasn’t officially announced any specific deals, but during previous Amazon sales we’ve seen savings that range from electronics and large appliances to small household items. Based on what we saw this March during Amazon’s big spring sale, here are some of the deals we expect to happen this year.
• Bissell Little Green Pet Deluxe Portable Carpet Cleaner: This iconic carpet cleaner, which also works wonders in the car, is especially good at taking care of pet stains, and has hit its lowest price this spring.
• iRobot Braava Jet M6: If you want to outsource the cleaning of the floors in your home, invest in this version of our popular robotic mop. That was a dollar off the lowest price we’ve seen in March.
• Breville Pizzaiolo smart pizza oven: Our pick for the best pizza oven is back at its lowest price in March.
• Amazon Echo Buds: A pair of Echo Buds were 30% off in March, matching the lowest price ever. Additionally, premium noise canceling options were also on sale.
• Canopy Ultimate Hydration Humidifier Pack: This editor’s favorite humidifier is pretty enough to display, plus it comes with filters and aroma-diffusing capabilities. In March, a bundle with replacement filters and essential oils was up to 45% off.
• Sony WH-1000XM4: Our selection of the best headphones was based on the new low price in both blue and black.
Amazon’s Prime Day isn’t the only big sale to watch out for, as many other big retailers will likely be offering discounts as well.
While we recommend Amazon as a destination for many of the items above, both Walmart and Target will mark down prices on many electronics, home goods, and more to prices close to (or better than) Amazon. Last July, both offered big savings on a huge variety of products to coincide with Prime Day.
Electronics giant Best Buy is also likely to compete with Prime Day deals; in the past, this retailer has offered up to $300 off select laptops, $200 off select MacBooks, up to $350 off select gaming desktops, and up to 50% off select small kitchen appliances.
For those looking for deep discounts on furniture and home appliances, Wayfair is likely to be the place to find the best deals. We expect the retailer to offer discounts of up to 60% — the same savings as before — on the same days as Prime Day.
