Perry Barr police incident live as officers close down the scene near a key city road

Police have closed a footpath near a row of houses in Perry Barr on one of Birmingham’s busiest commuter routes. A police cordon is currently in place on Walsall Road, opposite Tower Hill Medical Practice.

Several police cars were seen at the scene. The image showed police officers conducting an investigation.




The exact nature of the incident is still unclear. We have contacted West Midlands Police for comment.

Our reporter at the scene said: “There is a police incident in Walsall Road, Perry Barr this morning. The location is opposite Tower Hill Surgery.”

“There is police tape over some of the houses and pavements with a forensic search of the house. We have contacted West Midlands Police and will bring you their statement shortly.”

Traffic is not affected by the police station

Traffic on Walsall Road is unaffected by the police scene, which covers a small section of pavement outside residential properties.

Buses number 51 and 52 run as usual.

An ambulance is not called to the scene

Paramedics were not called to the scene, according to a spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service.

“I thought the car broke down”

Another resident said they heard a loud noise in the early hours of this morning that they thought was a car failure.

They told us: “About 1.30am to 1.45am – I thought it was the car that failed so I didn’t think about it.

“I woke up this morning and it was all closed. It scares me and I’m moving out of here.”

Resident heard ‘loud bang’

The resident told our reporter at the scene that she heard a “loud bang”. She said the noise was heard in the early hours of the morning.

Cordon in place since early morning – claims the resident

A local, who chose not to be named, told our reporter at the scene: “My son texted me at 6:48 and said everything is closed.

“It’s a busy road and all you hear is traffic. It’s a diverse road.”
