Elden Ring sales jump 467% after release of Shadow of the Erdtree I UK Monthly Charts

In June, 2.53 million console and PC games were sold in the UK, down almost 14% on the previous year, GSD data reveals.

June 2023 was particularly busy with the launches of Diablo IV, Final Fantasy 16, F1 23 and Street Fighter 6, while June 2024 was significantly quieter.

EA Sports FC 24 leads the charts. It’s a strong June performance for EA’s soccer game, which has undoubtedly benefited from the European Championship competition currently taking place in Germany.

The best-selling new game in June this year was F1 24, which placed 3rd on the podium. It’s somewhat of a disappointment for EA’s racer, with its first five weeks on the market down 44% compared to F1 23’s launch.

Elden Ring climbs 19 places in the rankings with a 467% month-over-month sales increase. FromSofware and Bandai Namco received a massive new Shadow of the Erdtree DLC at the end of the month, giving the base game a significant boost.

In 14th place is Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD from Nintendo. The game may have made the Top Ten, but Nintendo doesn’t share digital data with the charts, so its position is based solely on physical game sales. The game only came out at the end of the month.

Big month for DualSense

Console sales fell slightly in June, down 9% from the same period in 2023, with nearly 99,000 game consoles sold (GfK panel data).

All three platforms saw a slight decline, with the PS5 still comfortably leading the market (selling more than the other two platforms combined). The Nintendo Switch slipped to No. 3 this month, narrowly edging out the Xbox Series S and X, with both platforms more or less neck and neck year-to-date.

The UK console sector is down 29% in terms of units and 31% in sales this year. This was due to several factors, including a very strong first half of the year for the PS5 in 2023 when the console returned to stock (which is a tough year-over-year comparison), plus the age of the Nintendo Switch, which is now in its eighth year on the market.

Meanwhile, on the accessories side, 655,000 of these products were sold through UK retail last month (GfK figures). That’s a 16% jump from the same period in 2023. This was driven by some strong action on the PS5 DualSense, with the entire top four made up of the controller (Midnight Black at No. 1, White at No. 2, Cosmic Red at No. 3 and Starlight Blue at No. 4). The average selling price of a regulator was £10 lower in June than in May.

GfK boss Dorian Bloch revealed that as many additional DualSense controllers have been sold as PS5 units, meaning the average PS5 customer has one extra pad.
