Tess has had a lot to celebrate recently after winning Strictly at the 2024 BAFTA TV Awards.

The BBC show was awarded the best entertainment program gong, beating off competition from Michael McIntyre’s Big Show, Later… With Jools Holland and Hannah Waddingham: Home For Christmas.

Dominic West presented the award, Tess was joined by her co-host Claudia Winkleman, who led the Strictly team on stage to accept the honour.

Tess began her acceptance speech by quipping: “Thank you so much BAFTA for making it worth wearing Spanx on the hottest day of the year – it was a struggle.”

She expressed her gratitude for the award, explaining that it was particularly meaningful as it coincided with the 20th anniversary of Strictly, after the dance competition first hit TV screens in May 2004.

Tess said: “This year is Strictly’s 20th anniversary. We’ve been on TV for 20 years. Well, this is the greatest birthday present ever.

“And to the viewers at home, thank you so much for watching because we wouldn’t be here without you and that really means the world.”

She continued: “And this award is for the whole Strictly team who are the best on TV. They work so hard and are led by our incredible executive producer, Sarah James, who is amazing.

“We are so lucky to have you. Not only did she produce our series last year, but she also gave birth during it – you are remarkable!”

She added: “It was the most amazing series and we want to thank all the celebrities for taking part and being so brave. We may be bugging some of you in the room later for the next series.”

Claudia, 52, also joined in to shout out the judges and professional dancers and couldn’t resist cracking a joke about Strictly’s musical director, Dave Arch, 61.

She gushed: “We have to mention our extraordinary judges, the backbone of our show, the amazing professional dancers – so thank you.

“And of course we’re connected with Dave Archer, so thank you Dave!”

Speaking to the media after the win, the pair could not hide their joy and surprise at winning the award.

Claudia admitted: “We are quite shocked. I feel wobbly and weird!”
