The best non-gaming tech deals in the UK for Prime Day 2024

I know this sort of thing isn’t our usual remit, but Prime Day 2024 has brought some great deals on a whole range of tech, and that’s on everything from coffee makers to laptops and deep fryers to headphones.

To that end, here are the five best non-gaming tech deals I’ve spotted in the UK while cruising the UK Prime Day deals and charts – hope you find something!

Ninja Double Stack XL Air Fryer – £210 (was £270)

Okay, this might seem like a bit of an odd place to start, but let me explain. This Ninja Double Stack XL Deep Fryer is the latest and greatest from the big brand and has been pretty resistant to discounts up until this point where it’s been slashed by £60.

I’ve been a long-term user of Ninja fryers and in the past I’ve been impressed by their breadth of useful features, excellent cooking performance and smart looks. The Double Stack XL really has a lot going for it, especially in this Amazon exclusive black and copper colorway that’s on sale. It comes with a total capacity of 9.5 liters in two baskets of the same size and, thanks to the compartments inside, it can cook up to four different types of food at once. It also has some useful functions, such as classic air frying, as well as baking, baking, drying and Ninja’s own Max Crisp mode, which, with its maximum temperature of 240 degrees C, is useful for getting chips or breaded dishes perfectly crispy.

Also a big deal is the fact that this is Ninja’s first stackable fryer – meaning the baskets are on top of each other, not next to each other. This saves counter space, which is a godsend if your kitchen is on the smaller side like mine. It manages this while being only slightly taller than the brand’s own AF400UK – their classic large two-zone variant – so it’ll still fit under your kitchen cupboards.

Sony WH-1000XM4 – £180 (originally £350)

For a set of capable wireless noise-canceling headphones at nearly half the price, look no further than this deal on the Sony WH-1000XM4. These have been some of the class leading cans with ANC for a few years now and getting them at such a low price is quite a steal.

The XM4 offers best-in-class noise cancellation that essentially envelops you in silence, so you can focus on what you’re listening to without being disturbed by outside noises, whether it’s people chatting, train noise, and so on. There are several levels to choose from in Sony’s companion app, as well as a transparency mode that you can quickly activate to continue a conversation or be more aware of your surroundings. There’s even an optional Speak to Chat feature that automatically pauses playback and activates transparency mode when you start talking.

In terms of sound, the XM4 offers good depth in the low frequencies with a robust bass response, while providing a smooth midrange and detailed top end. Add to that the convenience of 30 hours of battery life, a collapsible chassis (which is sorely missing from the newer XM5), plush padding that makes the XM4 super comfortable, and a practical travel case, and you’ve got one hell of a treat. a set of wireless headphones for travel and everything else.

Sage Nespresso Creatista Plus – £265 (was £480)

The Sage Nespress Creatista Plus coffee maker is a great coffee maker that also comes with the fun of an integrated milk frother. There aren’t many machines that take pods that also have that as an option, so the Creatista Plus is a pretty great option.

In addition, it also comes with a useful display on the top that guides you through the process of making coffee and turning your favorite Nespresso espresso into a flat white, latte or whatever you prefer. Its brushed stainless steel finish looks classy too, and in line with other Sage machines it should be fairly well built.

Apple M2 13.3-inch MacBook Air – £849 (originally £999)

If it’s a MacBook with a solid price cut you’ve been after this Prime Day, then the 13.3-inch MacBook Air with M2 is £849 from Amazon. That knocks £150 off the usual list price of £999 and you get an excellent laptop for creatives for a little less.

This MacBook Air comes with an M2 chip inside, which is quite robust with eight CPU cores and 10 GPU cores, and is a powerful video editing option that outperforms even the fastest Intel-based Mac desktops and laptops. It may only be a modest upgrade from the M1, but it’s still faster, and you’ll reap the most benefits if you upgrade from an Intel-powered MacBook.

This M2 MacBook Air also comes with a 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display, which should provide accurate colors and a particularly vivid experience, while the basic 256GB SSD inside gives you a reasonable amount of space to store apps. The 8GB of RAM inside might not be enough for other laptops, but the efficiency of the M2 chip and macOS in general means it’s still viable. When it comes to battery life, Apple says this MacBook Air should last up to 18 hours on a single charge, which should give you good battery life for several work days off the charger.

Apple AirPods Pro 2 – £179 (was £229)

And finally for you – the Apple AirPods Pro 2 – a great pair of noise-canceling headphones with a sleek look, comfortable fit and great ANC, which have been reduced by £50 on Prime Day. They were £229 but are now £179.

The big thing about the second generation model is their improved ANC, with Apple claiming that this time it offers twice as much active noise cancellation as the previous model. The cancellation is excellent and makes the AirPods Pro 2 a fantastic pair of headphones for on-the-go use.

In addition, this second generation model also has a warmer sound profile with extended bass, great accuracy and solid imaging. Much of the work here is done by Apple’s new H2 chipset, which packs a lot of its own amplifiers and drivers in the name of sound offering, which is a big improvement over the original AirPods Pro model. There is also support for surround sound with these headphones, offering a more immersive experience in supported music as well as movies and TV shows.

In addition to offering this new H2 chipset for better sound, the second-generation AirPods Pro also bring with them some useful quality-of-life features compared to the first-generation model with better battery life (up to six hours) and a case that also supports the U1 chip from Apple, which brings the capabilities of the “Find My” function to your headphones. The case itself, like the headphones, is IPX4 waterproof, meaning it can handle a light splash of water – useful when it’s raining or when you’re working out at the gym.

So there you have it – that’s a round of fantastic Prime Day deals on some non-gaming tech I spotted today. If you want to grab any of these, feel free, but for anything else, check out the tons of other Prime Day articles we have.
