A new report reveals a $240 bundled offer

A comprehensive new report reveals that Google will offer a free AI subscription worth $239.88 with the new Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold smartphones.

Updated July 30 with details on the leaked Gemini update, which reinforces the growing importance of Google’s AI models in Pixel devices.

This latest news, discovered by a known insider OnLeaks and reported by the user 91mobiles.com, it builds on previously leaked information and provides anecdotal confirmation that the offering could be worth even more than previously thought.

The report includes a number of official-looking Pixel 9 Pro promotional materials, revealing that all three Pixel 9 “Pro” models will include a one-year subscription to Google One AI Premium at no extra cost. A previous leak revealed that Google will bundle twelve months of Gemini Advanced with every purchase, but not that it will be part of the full Google One AI Premium package.

Each Google One AI Premium subscription provides 2 TB of cloud storage and Google Gemini Advanced AI premium features. Gemini Advanced enables the most powerful Gemini 1.5 Pro model and features Google titles like Gemini in Gmail and Docs. Google One AI Premium is charged for $19.99 per month, which is a total value of $239.88 per year.

The full terms and conditions for the Gemini Advanced offer are not yet available, but should appear in due course at this link (it was inactive at the time of writing).

Not everyone will be able to claim the offer

Unfortunately, due to an ongoing issue with the Google One subscription structure, customers who have subscribed to the most expensive tiers of 5TB and above will not be able to take advantage of the offer without setting up a new account, as Google One AI Premium is currently only offered at the 2TB tier. However, Google seems to be considering introducing at least one new Google One subscription, so that could change soon.

To use Gemini Advanced, you must also be at least 18 years old, able to use the software in English, and reside in one of the countries where Google One AI Premium is supported.

What about the standard Pixel 9?

While this latest report doesn’t mention the standard Pixel 9, a previous report suggests that the base model Pixel 9 could get a similar subscription package lasting six months instead of a full year.

Gemini Advanced will become even more useful for the Pixel 9 Pro

July 30 update

A recent report from Android Authority reveals that Google is testing six new Gemini extensions that allow Gemini to connect to other apps and services. Pixel 9 Pro users will therefore get the best experience from these extensions thanks to their bundled Gemini Advanced subscriptions.

Three of these six new extensions, Google Calendar, Keep, and Tasks, were announced at Google I/O 2024, but the remaining three appear to be brand new. The newly discovered extensions include capabilities currently only available to Google Assistant, bringing Gemini three steps closer to being able to completely replace Google Assistant.

Unannounced extensions are:

Google Home – Gemini will be able to view and control smart home devices.

Telephone – Gemini gains unspecified telephone-based abilities such as telephoning.

Tools – Gemini will be able to perform tasks like taking pictures, launching apps and adjusting volume levels directly without using the system settings app.

There’s no word on when these new extensions might make their way to users, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them appear with the launch of the Pixel 9 series on August 13. The extensions work with standard Gemini, but upgrading to Gemini Advanced will allow users to take full advantage of them by gaining access to Google’s most powerful Gemini 1.5 Pro model reserved for premium subscriptions.

By offering a year of Gemini Advanced with every new Pixel 9 Pro, you ensure that Google’s latest smartphones showcase the best of Gemini’s capabilities. It will also push customers to upgrade their Pixel phones more often, assuming Google continues to offer similar incentives with future Pixels.
